8. MATCHA RAMEN IN TOKYO

Here is best known for their famous matcha ramen! While it looks quite intense 🤯, it’s actually quite a subtle matcha flavour (just a hint) but as you get to the bottom of the bowl, the flavour gets a little more intense 💚 I really liked how they let you customise your noodle firmness and their broth isn’t too rich or fatty which is great because you can easily finish the entire bowl!

The lines aren’t too crazy compared to other popular ramen places in Tokyo (we only waited about 5 minutes). Even if you don’t love matcha, I highly recommend that you check out at least one of their ramen 😊

P.s. what’s your preferred noodle firmness? Mine is firm 🍜

🍵 Matcha Tori Paitan Ramen - ¥1100
🥩Wagyu Tan Tan Noodle - ¥1200
🍜White truffle scented Tori Paitan Ramen with Wagyu - ¥1050

10. TOKYO’S BEST SUSHI WITHOUT THE PRICE TAG

You’re in the sushi capital of the world - but where do you go for quality sushi worth traveling for without breaking the bank?

🔥 Line go OUT THE DOOR daily for Sushi Nomidori (寿司の美登利) and it’s not hard to see why! Their most popular location is their Shinbuya branch but I went to their Ginza store and LOVED it. It’s actually quite a big restaurant with plenty of seats (relative to other Japanese restaurants).

💴 For only ¥3630 (incl. tax) you can have a GENEROUS selection of quality cuts such as uni, fatty salmon, fatty tuna (otoro), unagi and fish sperm!

📍 They span several locations across Tokyo including Ginza, Akasaka and Shibuya but no matter where you go you’ll have to come in EARLY to secure your chance to chow down on some of Tokyo’s freshest sushi without leaving with an empty wallet!

I highly recommend booking online because I was able to just walk in right when they opened at 11am but there had already been a crazy long line from 10:30am

14. MUST TRY FOOD AT ARASHIYAMA. Save this for your trip!

With endless rows of towering bamboo, Arashiyama’s Sagano Bamboo Forest is world-renowned for its serene, and dreamlike scenery, but did you know all the yummy food there!? 🤤🤯

1️⃣ Dango

I’m not exaggerating, these are genuinely the CUTEST and most BEAUTIFUL dango I have ever seen! They’re super fresh and delightfully chewy with so many different topping flavours (my personal favorite was the super unique and creamy milk dango!)

🍡 Dango is a Japanese glutinous rice flour dumpling with a firmer and chewier texture than mochi which is made from steamed and pounded rice (see our mochi pounding video for more) 🥰

2️⃣ Sweet Potato Fries

🍠 Choose from 3 different types of fried sweet potato: French fries, chips and chunky wedges. There’s something for everyone!

3️⃣ Cremia Soft Serve Ice Cream

🍦 Arguably some of the BEST ice cream in the world / Cremia is world famous for its PREMIUM quality, consisting of 25% Hokkaido fresh cream and 12.5% high milk fat for a rich flavour and silky texture. HOWEVER, my cone was really watery, icy not creamy AT ALL 😭 Truly devastated to say that I didn’t like it. Instead of a traditional waffle cone, they use thin crispy langue de chat cone and this was delicious! The cone was definitely the saving grace 🙇‍♀️

4️⃣ Deep Fried Fish Skewers

🐠 They serve 4 different flavours:
🧀 Yuba & Cheese
🐙 Octopus & Green Onion
🔥 Spicy cuttlefish & Leek
🦐 Shrimp and Mayonaise

They’re all freshly fried when you place your order so they’re served to you PIPING hot 🥵 They’re especially delicious during cold winter days! For ¥1500 I got to try all 4 flavours and while they’re all yummy the Octopus was extra crispy on the outside and my personal favourite!

Japan, 〒160-0023 Tokyo, Shinjuku City

5️⃣ They serve FIVE different types of HANDMADE noodles! Can’t decide which one? They’ve got you covered, with one of their dishes offering THREE types of ramen in one!

You order from a vending machine and give your ticket(s) to the staff. NOTE: The entire menu is in Japanese. There was no English translation so I had to show the wonderful staff photos of the dishes I wanted and they helped guide me in the right direction 🥹❤️

🧊 These HANDMADE delights are shocked in ice to create a super CHEWY and BOUNCY texture perfectly suited for their super thick and umami broth!

23. I WAITED 2.5 HOURS FOR THIS! Japan has the best and freshest sea food!!!

It is a small 11 seat restaurant that only serves one type of dish, Kaisendon (a mixed seafood rice bowl). Yes the seafood on top was yummy but that bream soup was TO DIE FOR. When you’ve finished about 3/4 of your rice bowl, kindly ask for “ochazuke” and they will serve you some delicious soup (and additional rice if you want more). It’s so creamy with a nice tang from the yuzu and it’s not fishy at all!

If you love sashimi and fresh seafood and you have plenty of time in Tokyo, then it’s definitely worth a shot! The lines are really long though so you’ve been warned

P.s. they’re cash only
